AI video has mostly been sold as a generation story. Write a prompt, wait, and get a clip. That part is getting cheap and fast. In August,
fal reported that H3 Max could generate a five-second 768p video in 2.78 seconds.
The work begins after the clip exists. Someone still has to find the useful moments, remove mistakes, source B-roll, time every cut, build captions, balance the audio, add motion graphics, check the frames, render the file, and deliver the right format.
That entire production loop is starting to become agent work.
This weekend, builder
Riley Brown shared a short-form video edited from one prompt with Claude Opus 5.5. The agent cut mistakes, sourced B-roll, built Blender scenes, added captions and audio, and rendered the finished video. It was a custom workflow, but it showed a model coordinating the production chain instead of merely suggesting edits in a chat window.
We have been testing the same end-to-end workflow with Montaj.
One video combines talking-head footage with custom 3D robot scenes and captions. Another mixes generated characters, filmed footage, product UI, motion graphics, and sound. These are complete edits, not isolated AI clips.
The software is catching up.
Remotion Studio gives agents context from the current selection, while
fframes turns video into inspectable frames, timeline data, audio measurements, and warnings. Editing agents need that project state, fast previews, failure checks, and human approval, not just a render button.
The timeline is not disappearing. It is becoming readable and writable by agents. You describe the outcome, the agent assembles a first pass, and you step in where taste and judgment matter.

We're launching Montaj today.
We built Montaj for people like you: already using AI to make things, but still piecing the last mile of video together by hand. Give Claude or ChatGPT your footage and tell it what you want. Montaj gives your AI a real editor where it can make cuts, add captions, create scenes, and render the video. You review the first pass, make the calls that need your taste, and ship. Montaj is available now for Mac and Windows.

The important shift is already visible: video editing is becoming a production system that an agent can operate. Montaj turns that shift into a product people can use today, with the speed of your AI and a visual editor for the decisions that still need a human.
